Ferenc Pethe (of Kisszántó, 1763–1832) Hungarian journalist, economic writer. He took part in the establishment of the Georgikon agricultural education institute; he edited or published several economic magazines. His works are important sources concerning the state of agriculture in early 19th century Hungary. The exhibited book is the only published volume of his textbook Természet-história és mesterségtudomány (“Natural history and technology”), originally planned to be a three-volume compendium. In addition to the description of the animal kingdom, the volume also presents philosophical and scientific principles of natural history. The nicely illustrated volume contains 49 coloured plate of mammals.
