Michael Ettmüller (1644–1683) was a professor of medicine in Leipzig. Curiously enough, most of his books were issued posthumously. The works of the influential scientist were published by his disciples and later by his son, based on his manuscripts and recorded lectures. His collected works (Opera omnia, 1688) present the medical institutions, the various diseases afflicting people and world of medicines of his age. This book of three volumes contains more than thousand pages. The use of the contemporary typographic tools (engravings and decorative initials) is worthy of attention.
