Wolfgang Franz (1564–1628) was a German Lutheran theologian, whose zoological work was republished several times between 1612 and 1712. The copy exhibited here was published in 1665 in Amsterdam under the title of Historia animalium. The more than 700 pages of this small but all the more bulky volume contain detailed descriptions of animals known (or supposed to be known) in his age, including unicorns and dragons.
